The car industry is leading the way when it comes to technology

Technology is becoming an increasingly integral part of our lives. From our phones to our cars, our fridges to the way we consume entertainment, technology is all around us and the businesses that continue to invest in technology are the ones that continue to grow and thrive.

The car industry is one of those that are leading the way when it comes to investment in technology and this is only going to continue to grow.

The number of new electric vehicles in Australia has nearly tripled after years of lagging sales, off the back of incentives introduced by state governments to support their uptake.

According to The Guardian, Australia recorded 20,665 EV sales in 2021, a significant increase from the 6,900 sold in 2020, which means electric cars now make up 1.95% of the new car market.

The Tesla Model 3 was the best-selling electric car in Australia, with 12,094 vehicles sold last year – accounting for 58.5% of all EVs sold. It was followed by the MG ZS with 1,388 and the Mitsubishi Outlander with 592.

EVs are going to become more and more commonplace and as you might expect, EVs are cars that are packed full of technology. In Australia, despite increasing EV sales in 2021, the country still lags some way behind the rest of the world when it comes to EV sales.

In order to produce a national electric vehicle strategy consistent with global climate efforts, Australia would need to aim for at least half of new car sales being electric by 2030 and 100% by 2035. This translates to about one million electric vehicles sold in Australia by 2027 and at least 2.5 million by 2030.

Whilst this might not be an achievable target, one thing that is for sure is that EV sales will continue to grow and that means Australians are going to be introducing more technology into their lives through the vehicles they drive.

EVs leading the technological charge

EVs are packed full of technology by nature. From the batteries to the electric motors, EVs are channeling the power of technology to improve both the driving experience and the range of the cars to make them a more practical and viable alternative to traditional petrol and diesel-powered vehicles.

As well as the technology in the battery and the motors, EVs are also packed with all the latest technology when it comes to comfort and entertainment including large entertainment displays, connectivity with services such as Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, safety features including blind-spot collision detection, lane departure warning and automatic braking.

EVs are becoming more affordable in Australia and the MG ZS is currently the most affordable EV in Australia priced at $43,990 driveaway. This has seen more Australians making the move to an EV and the introduction of new models from many of the leading care manufacturers, coupled with advancements in technology, should mean that prices continue to fall for EVs, making it more affordable for people to make the switch.

The rising price of gas in Australia is also driving a shift in mentality when it comes to new car purchases, with many looking at EVs and hybrid vehicles as better investments in the long term.

Technology impacting every aspect of our lives

Whilst our vehicles are becoming more advanced, the automotive industry is not the only one that is investing in technology. The hospitality sector is one of the industries that is investing in technology in order to deliver a better service to customers.

From hotels to restaurants and beyond – technology is changing the way businesses interact with their customers, helping them to deliver the best possible experience.

In the hotel sector, automated check-ins via a digital display have also helped to speed up the check-in and check-out process for those who don’t want to wait for someone on the front desk. Some hotel chains around the world have already rolled out keyless entry where access to your room can be made either via a mobile phone app, or in some cases, fingerprint technology.

In the online gaming industry, technology such as facial recognition, voice recognition, gesture controls and virtual reality are all changing the ways in which people engage with games online.

For many online casinos, it’s crucial that they not only offer a safe and secure environment for gaming online but that they also continue to innovate which is why Betway Casinos has been such a heavy investor in technology to keep them ahead of the game.

In our day-to-day lives, businesses around the world are investing in new technology in order to improve the experience at the checkout in stores and supermarkets. Whilst contactless payment is prevalent around the world, pay by face could soon become more commonplace and is already been successfully deployed in China.

At the border, facial recognition is now widely used by border security to manage the secure entry and exit of passengers through airports around the world and this is a trend that will continue to grow.

Many of these technologies could also be adopted by the automotive industry. Car entry could one day be granted using facial recognition and keyless entry is already a common feature in many vehicles today.

Technology is something that is having a huge impact on our lives and there is no doubt that vehicle manufacturers are at the forefront when it comes to the adoption of new technologies.
